If you are a recent graduate of P90x (not sure what it is, check my info here), or are looking to step up your game a little with something more you have options. The one thing that I wanted and I think most people do to is variety. They are looking for something that isn’t always the same, provides a challenge and will continue to push their bodies and selves to another level.
Sounds like the ideal world of working out doesn’t it. We’ll lets see what is out there. Four workouts’ that I think can help keep you challenged and keep you from that ‘boredom’ factor that many get after completing a workout I've mentioned below. I’ve tried each Product mentioned below in some fashion and I back each one as an effective means at getting yourself into shape, transforming your body and lifestyle and having some fun along the way. Go ahead, read about them and decide to get going. Contact me (form/email), twitter for more information.
Detailed Information can be found following the link.
So what is Insanity?
Insanity is a 60 day workout program designed to well get you in the best shape of your life let by Shaun Thompson. Sure everyone knows Hip Hop abs.. How can someone say that? The idea is built around the concept of Interval training. But not just standard interval training, but Max Interval training, follow the link for more information on it. You will exercise for long periods of sustained high intensity, with short periods of rest. Insanity will increase your cardiovascular strength, stamina and endurance to new heights. The nice part is that Insanity should help immensely with any other sports you do. Biking, running, swimming, soccer, etc. All aspects of the routine will increase your capabilities in all sports.
There are 10 discs of a variety of plyometrics, nonstop intervals of strength, power, resistance and ab/core training. The best part for some is NO weights or equipment needed. That’s right. Strictly uses your own body weight for the source of resistance. You will find yourself pushed to farthest you have ever been as you will need to dig deep to reach your maximum potential.
Workouts in the base product include: Fit Test, Ploymetric cardio circuit, Cardio Recovery, Pure cardio and Abs, Cardio Abs, core cardio and balance, Max Interval circuit, Max Interval Plyo, Max Cardio Conditioning, Cardio Power and Resistance. With the Deluxe version you get 3 additional workouts. Max Interval Sports Training, Insane Abs, and a weighted workout.
Comes with a nutrition guide that will help you transform your daily food intake, increase your energy and make sure you are maintaining your proper levels throughout the 60 days. Food is fuel, so supply your body with the right ones.
Personally I have done 1 round of Insanity and will be starting by 2nd. I have noticed definite results I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a challenge after a round or two of P90x or if you feel that you are already in decent shape. You can follow my journey with me day to day on my site. I have been video blogging as well which you can find here.
What is P90x Plus?
P90x Plus is the next step workout’s after P90x, led by Tony Horton. I personally would use them as an add-on to the existing P90x or in a hybrid workout with say Tony Horton One on One. But you can do a full 90 day workout routine with just P90x plus and P90x. There is an excel sheet, which you can get here that has the 90 day routine.
There are 5 new workout’s in P90x Plus:
- Total Body Plus –> A full body sculpting, strengthening routine. Each muscle group is touched during this workout.
- Interval X Plus –> An Effective Fat-burning cardio workout using low/medium/high intensity.
- Upper Plus –> Your entire upper body is getting hit. arms, back, chest, shoulders, delts, biceps, tripceps, etc.
- Kenpo Cardio Plus –> If you like Kenpo cardio in P90x you’ll love the new version. Improve stamina, balance and agility.
- Abs/Core Plus –> sculpts your entire core/midsection. New exercises that engage the entire core. Very Effective.
I have done a round of P90x Plus. I think it is a great next step to P90x itself. Personally I would look at incorporating it into a hybrid program more than just a standalone. That is my personal opinion. And that is really how it is setup the 90 days. You would be using workout’s from the original P90x set as well. Take a look. The new workouts are great, they do what they say. New Variety of workout’s that keep the muscles guessing and help to push your body to that next level.
What is Tony Horton One on One series?
I have fallen in love with the Tony Horton One on One series. They are great workouts that you can combine to create your own round or cycle, or are perfect for mixing things up in any of your current routines (chaLEAN Extreme, P90x, P90x Plus, General workout cycle you may be doing currently).
There are two Volumes right now, and you can buy each individual exercise if you want as well. You do NOT have to buy the entire series, but ultimately to get the most out of it, you would want to get the entire set. Volume one can be bought as an entire set. Due to the amazing variety of workouts and the new ones that come each month you will find this to be an exciting twist to your normal workouts. Looking to break a plateau you’ve reached, then look here to help get through it. The uniqueness and variety are awesome!

What is ChaLEAN Extreme?
Some call this P90x without the chin/pull up bar. You get incredibly challenged by Chalene’s workout methods and fat burning techniques. There are two versions right now. ChaLEAN extreme, and ChaLEAN Extreme Deluxe (added workouts, weighted gloves, and an extra band making a total of 3). End of the Month (September 2009) there will be some added workout’s coming along. So check back for that information.
So what makes chaLEAN effective? Like P90x chalean use muscle confusion and muscle failure as part of their programs. You get variety in your workout’s, you get great trainers that are there to help motivate you to push yourselves further than you probably pushed yourself before.
Chalean is geared towards all fitness levels compared to P90x. If you are looking to get in shape and are not currently in shape you could utilize Chalean extreme. She incorporates slow and controlled exercises that helps to effectively get people of all fitness levels involved. This isn’t to say that someone that already isn’t in shape wouldn’t benefit. This is an extreme workout program that will push you. It’s no joke folks.
The beginning of her program also has the burn basics and band basics that are used as tutorials on how to use use weights and lift as well as the bands. This is very nice for the beginner fitness folks.
So what's included:
- Burn Basics & Band Basics
- Burn Circuit
- Push Circuit
- Lean Circuit
- Burn Intervals
- Burn it off
- Recharge
- Extreme Abs and Ab burner
This is one I would recommend to all fitness levels. I think it is highly effective. Great trainer. Great techniques to get you in shape. Chalene is awesome at motivating and keeping you highly energized in and out of your workouts. Follow her on twitter and her blog and you’ll be amazed at everything she does and how much she loves what she does.

Conclusions
So I’ve provided a breathe of information above about various workout’s programs. Each Program can be done stand-alone or each program can be done in conjunction with each other or some other variant. The key here is Variety. The key here is keeping yourself motivated and not get bored of the same routine. one of the number one factors that people stop working out from is they don’t keep excited about what they are doing.
I call upon you to Contact me, with ANY questions about any of the above routines. ANY questions about where to get started or how my experience was with them. I love to share my thoughts and hope to help others get motivated to start and continue towards their own goals and healthy lifestyles. it’s a great time to start a new program especially with the fall/winter season coming. I’ve provided links throughout to where you can get these programs as well as additional information.
