Yesterday, my buddy in training and I dug in and did for our first time the Bike and Run in succession. We started out in Kensington and headed over to Island lake to follow the route that will be our actual course when we do the tri itself in August. We got a bit of assistance from someone that was getting ready to ride, gave us the low down on the course itself. So that was good. otherwise Sam (aka the buddy) and I would have been riding around aimlessly. The scary part was when we kept getting passed as if we were in slow motion. Really liked that. Shows how much further we can go with the training.
Cycle
The cycle portion ended up being 12 miles. about 1/2 mile short of the actual course. We are still trying to figure out where we missed the 1/2 mile since it isn’t very hard to mess it up. So could be the GPS. This is the link to the route that we took . I’m using an app on the IPhone called Cyclometer to track my riding adventures. So far have to say I really like it. Great detail and is pretty accurate overall.
Run
For the run portion, we shifted back over to Kensington. We realized we didn’t bring locks for the bikes so that we could follow the actual course that the run will follow, so we rode back and did a general 5K from where we were parked. Nice route wrapping around the lake and over the bridges and back. Short but effective. Definitely showed me that I am still in much need of more running overall. The run was good, but noticed need to pick up the distance that I’m running in training to gain some more endurance overall. Using the NIke + App to track the runs.
3 weeks in , and it’s coming along. Luckily have 2 more months to really dig in and get things done. Swimming begins this week. This should be fun. Can’t wait!
