Tony Horton P90x One on One Yoga MC2 Review (Volume 3 Disk 5)

clock December 18, 2010 07:56 by author kevin

THp90X0neonOne_12

Who doesn’t love getting in some yoga with Tony Horton?  I will say up front that I am not very good at it.  But I will say that I try. I do my best and I forget the rest.  This is one area of my fitness that I trust what Tony tells me and I do it.  But we can also say that from the way  I feel after a round of Yoga, I’m whooped, yet feeling refreshed.  Fitness is more than just lifting weights and doing some cardio based workout.

Tony Horton brought to the masses 5 years ago with his P90x program a 90 minute long yoga workout.  Then when he began his One-on-One volumes, he came out with 2 others (Fountain of Youth and Patience Hummingbird) to help reduce the amount of time spent but still effective and true to what Tony wants us to get out of his Yoga workouts.  Many folks complained about the length of time.  Tony is such a firm believer in yoga that   This new one, geared towards the next P90x MC2, brings new breathe and life.  I found that this new Yoga program in Volume 3 is the best all around for me.

MC2 Yoga focuses on breathe and movement.  Finding the balance between the two with very exact moves that are slow but force you to really realize the movements and the benefits of understanding your breathing and the movements you are doing.   I myself will do what I can and realize this is my ‘weakest’ link in my overall exercise program.  I don’t spend enough time doing Yoga, but I know the benefits.  This will be one that I throw into the rotation in order to increase my capabilities in this area.

Yoga alone has incredible benefits for your core, your strength and your balance which in the end is an absolute must for any workout program, any sport, and just anything you do in life.  You’ll feel calmer and more at ease if you really allow yourself to take that leap.

Equipment: Usual Yoga mat, water, towel, yoga block, face towel
Duration: ~63 minutes
Concepts: Strength, power, flexibility, breathing, range of motion

One thing, you can’t just ‘do’ the motions or skip the hard moves.  I’ll admit that I have in the past. But if you want the true benefits do everything.  Just like w/ cardio, weights, you have to give it 110% of your effort to see the maximum benefits.

Tony is focused and intense and ready to show you where you can go in life.  Yoga MC2 is rock solid!

Working out isn’t just something we do. It is a way of life, a chance to better yourself mentally and physically.  You feel better, you live longer, you are more confident and there is no reason that everyone out there shouldn't’ be able to take advantage of these benefit.  Take a step in the right direction and get started on a fitness program. Even if it is just walking daily.  Contact me with any questions about how to get started. I’m here to help and love to see people do the right thing!

Tony Horton P90x One on One Base & Back Review (Volume 3 Disk 4)

clock December 6, 2010 21:34 by author kevin

THp90X0neonOne_12So in this installment of P90x One on One, Tony gives us a sample of the next version of P90x dubbed MC2 (Muscle Confusion) with Base and Back.  Similar in name only to Legs and Back from the original P90x program.  But with some added benefits and as always great Tony Horton humor, wit, and willingness to put you through the ropes to get you to push yourself physically and mentally each and every workout.

Base and back uses a mixture of pull-up’s most are non-traditional in order to create the results desired, muscle confusion along with the plyo based Leg moves that require no weights.  But as mentioned you will be doing some sort of jumping move for each leg exercise.  The idea behind this is to get the big muscles (aka the legs) working, bringing the heart rate up.

As you can imagine, when you finish this workout, you are going to be exhausted if you do it right.  There is a lot of breaks in between the moves, which for sure won’t be there when MC2 comes out officially next year.  So you’ll find that you’ll be burning even more calories and getting pushed even harder.  But between some of these moves you will need that added rest.

Duration: ~41 minutes
Moves:  10 moves, repeated.  Alternating between legs and back.

I enjoyed the workout.  It has been my leg and back workout now the past few weeks.  The whole idea is variety and muscle confusion.  When I start my next round of P90x, this will be added and replacing some of the legs and back days along with some of the other P90x One on Ones from Volume 2.

Want to take things to another level or spice up your current workout routine it doesn’t matter.  P90x One on One’s from all 3 volumes are there for you to create the workout routine that you have dreamed about.  Ready for a challenge?

I’m always excited to try out new workouts. I hope you are to and get on board with the One on One program if you aren’t already.  Contact me with any questions, I love to talk about fitness and would love to hear about your journey!  Don’t be afraid to take a chance. You can do anything you set your mind to and sites on!

Workout: 10-14-10 4 Mile Run (taper week) & P90x One on One V3 ARX 2

clock October 15, 2010 22:35 by author kevin

THp90X0neonOne_12  I continue to love doing the new P90x One on ONe workouts.  I think Tony has come up with a great formula as he continues on his path to creating a Kick ARSE P90x MC2 (Muscle Confusion 2).  I’m still not near making it 100% all the way through this with the same level of effort as Tony. That’s alright by me.  The motto continues to stand now, “Do your best, forget the rest”. My abs are having fun and so am I with volume 3.

Last night I had a 4 mile run. This is the 2nd to last run before the 1/2 Marathon in Detroit. freepmarathonlogo  So part of the 2 week taper.  It couldn’t of been a better night for a run.  And it was something right out of a movie, at least it felt that way to me.  The weather conditions were prime, a nice breeze, chilled air, street lights paced apart just enough to create the ambience right out of a horror movie. And What perfect timing for the year for Halloween. I so kept expecting to see a dark tall figure standing in the distant light or something.  Was really cool actually.  The wife was watching Bones when I left and she made a comment about being safe.  Seemed to fitting that the scene was laid out so perfectly :)

So 4 miles.  It’s getting close to race day and the nerves are picking up a bit.  I don't’ worry about the actual 13.1 miles, i worry about the body itself holding up.  I know I can run that far when my body is doing what it should. Right now, it’s not the most happy camper.  I got no excuses, I will finish this race and I will be very happy with whatever results I get.  I made a commitment to myself just over 90 days ago to train and complete a 1/2 marathon.  Time to fulfill that goal! A short 2 mile run on Saturday to complete the taper. Been doing a little Carb Loading, but I feel for myself to stick with what has worked so far.

I look forward to breaking down the past 90 day journey to my first 1/2 marathon and how TurboFire was my program of choice to getting there!  Watch for the update in the coming days!

Workout: 10-2-10 Tony Horton P90x One on One ARX2 ~ Core Killer (review)

clock October 4, 2010 21:57 by author kevin

THp90X0neonOne_12 Tony Horton’s P90x One on One Volume 3, Disk 2 is Ab Ripper X 2 (aka. ARX2).  As Tony continues this journey towards MC2, he is experimenting, changing things up, finding ways to confuse our muscles and create something unique and new in the world of fitness.  On top of that, he just wants to have fun! :)

ARX2, is different than it’s older brother ARX in the original P90x program.  It is longer (42 minutes) and is slower.  Mainly that is due to Tony writing done information about the workout as he finds what he might add into the new P90x Mc2 next fall.  I enjoy the commentary and the information that Tony provides during the workouts.

You might be thinking how can I do 42 minutes of abs? We’ll don’t fret. It isn’t all working out.  In the end, this would most likely be a 20 minute AB workout if you went from one exercise to the next.

Tony’s Motto this workout is from Mohammad Ali himself “Training begins when you can’t do no more”.   He’s here to get us motivated, keep us entertained with his witty humor and bring to the masses the most effective training methods for getting in shape!  Do you like variety? Then come along for the ride!

I found that you are more engaged in this workout than the original ARX. You are focusing on keeping the core tight, which includes being more precise on the moves and form.  It’s not about getting in there and just crunching out the reps. IT’s about getting to the heart of working our CORE!

Details:

Length: 42 minutes (
Exercises: 20 core busting ab ripping moves. (exercises such as Banana Two Crunch, Side arm balance crunch, row your boat, the abronome and many more)
Reps: 20 – 30 depending on your level of expertise.
Focus: CORE.  This is different than ABX in that you are moving slower, focusing on the whole CORE and not just the abs.

Watch the clip below.  I think you’ll find that if you are up to the P90x One on One challenge or looking to change up your routine, take a look and get on board. Any questions, let me know. Can always contact me.  I love to hear how things are going.  There is only one way to get healthy and fit!  That’s to press play!

Workout: 10-1-10 Tony Horton P90x One on One Shoulders & Arms (review)

clock October 2, 2010 13:47 by author kevin

THp90X0neonOne_12 Yesterday was my first time through the latest P90x One-on-One workout Shoulders & Arms.  This is a continuation of the journey to the new P90x MC2 (Muscle Confusion 2) that will be out Fall 2011.  Basically in each monthly installment of these one-on-one’s Tony is showing us some of the upcoming moves he will introduce into the new P90x program.  We get to take this journey along with him as he makes a decision on what works and what doesn’t.  The best part overall is that we get to reap the rewards of this as a ‘client’ of Tony Horton himself each month.  I love this approach and I’ve been dying for updated workouts from the P90x series.  They program works and this is just icing on the cake.

So Shoulders and Arms is a great workout.  We are talking ~57 minutes of pure muscle action.  We are working the so called ‘glamour’ muscles and let’s just say by the end of these 57 minutes, if you are working out as hard as you should, you’ll be left feeling exhausted yet energized.  I myself was and was loving it.  Something new and fresh always gets the motivation and desire to keep pressing play going.

So let’s break this workout down.

Equipment:

  • Weights (i use my selecttechs), but dumbbells as always work great also.
  • Stability ball – optional but man you’ll love it if you have one.
  • Chair / Workout bench
    Workout:

Warm-up (always.  Never start these workouts cold). There are 4 rounds in all.  Each round contains 2 exercises.   In each round you’ll do 3 cycles of those 2 exercises.

Side note:  What you find with the new workouts is that Tony goes deep into the thought process of these exercises chosen.  The goal is to come up with an amazing new workout program.  It’s nice because the dialogue between him and Mason give you a great feel for what you are working on and why.  Rather than just get in there and do it attitude. Tony also focuses on form heavily.

Round 1:
Pike Presses with feet super elevated.
Alternating Arnold Press.

Round 2:
6 direction Shoulder fly
Posterior Rear Delt Fly

Round 3:
Bicep Curl
Triceps with or without Stability ball

Round 4:
Crazy Eights (biceps)
Triceps Extension

Are we having fun yet? I certainly hope so because that is what keeps us going.  Have fun, stay motivated, find that spark, that little something something that keeps you pressing play each and every day towards your health and fitness goals! Find that new challenge, find that new workout (ie. P90x One on Ones or any of the other workouts in the first 2 volumes).  There is so much vareity you can’t go wrong!   Love to chat so contact me anytime.  Love to help!

Workout – 9-28-10 Tony Horton P90x 1-on-1 ARX2 and 6 Mile Run

clock September 29, 2010 14:58 by author kevin

One_300x250Yesterday I got in a great set of workouts.   Took on one of the latest Tony Horton P90x One on One workouts.  The Ab Ripper X 2, or aka  Core Killer or ARX2.   This is another in the series of workouts leading into the new P90x MC2 due out fall 2011.  I love this workout. It’s 40 minutes of core fun that really makes you focus on form.  I’ll get a review up here shortly of the full workout.  I love the quote Tony mentions from Ali in the beginning “The training begins when you can do no more”.

Later in the evening, when everything settled down, got out for one my 3 runs this week, Nike Plus, leading up to the Detroit Free Press Half Marathon in October.  It was a 6 mile run.  Felt really good the first say 4 miles.  I was feeling pretty light on my feet.  Once i started getting into the 5 and 6th miles my pace began to slow a bit.  Nothing too crazy, but the weird part was I felt like i was still moving as fast.  not sure.  So ended up a bit slower on the last 2 than I had hoped but all in all a good workout!  Key was getting out there and getting the body moving and staying true to the training. Ideally i can stay consistent throughout the entire 1/2 and reach my goal of 2 hours.

Been eating relatively clean throughout the day.  Sticking with 5 meals a day, keeping the energy levels up and working towards the goals!

Stay in the game! Stick to what works for you and gets you motivated. That’s all I can ask of you and is all you should ask of yourself.  Press play and get moving, the results will come! Want any advice, help or just to chat about your workout program or where to start or how to take it to another level, check out my site or contact me.

Tony Horton P90x One On One – Chest Back and Balls Review (Volume 3, disc 1)

clock August 3, 2010 12:17 by author kevin

One_300x250 Tony has released the first disc of Volume 3 called Chest back and Balls.  This is the beginning of the next P90x to be released next year in the fall sometime, so far the working name is P90x:MC2.  Tony is giving us an inside view into the creation and production of the new P90x by showing us each month new P90x moves that he has developed and potentially will be putting into the new series.

You can see my video update on this workout here, along with some clips of a few of the ball moves.  All my videos can be see in my YouTube channel.

There are various moves(Lever, Two ball push-up side arm balance, the possible, three ball plyometric pushup, L-pull-up, swimmer’s push-up military push-ups on medicine ball and many more) between a variety of pull-up’s and push-up’s doing ball work.  With the type of stabilization work you have to do with the balls themselves, you will need to focus on your balance and utilizing your core muscle group, your gluts, and everything else in order to be successful.

Details:

Time: Approximately 50 minutes
Exercises: 20 (10 pull-up moves and 10 ball moves)
Equipment: Pull-Up Bar, Large Stability ball, 4 medium sized balls (basketball size, or medicine ball size)

You’ll find that Tony has spared no expense of pushing us to our limits with this workout.  Each move is tailored to get the most out of it if you follow the way he shows it.  As Tony explains also during each move, that during the new P90x program, each move will have variations shown by others that will be in the video’s so that people can do what works best for them.  Always ways to modify a move so you can still get an effective workout done from it.  He even mentions some of the ways you can modify during the current one on one as well.  But if you can, give those ball moves a try as they are.  Oh, it’s fun and crazy!

This was a great lead off workout for the P90x (newly labeled) One on One series Volume 3 because I was toast after the 50 minutes.  I had a blast with the ball moves more than anything because trying to get my balance and learn that I have a long ways to go.  We even get to see Tony getting pushed to the extreme in this one.  That tells you for one it is a WINNER workout.

Any questions, and comments just drop me a note.  I’m always around and love to hear back from people on their views of the workouts, their current program or just sharing their story.  You can contact me at anytime through the methods there.  One day at a time folks.  That’s all it takes.  Take that first step and get fit and healthy!  Your journey starts now.

Latest Updates of TurboFire (Month 2 started) BeachBody Workout program (creators of P90x and Insanity)

clock July 23, 2010 15:58 by author kevin

TurboFireLogo2

Into Month 2 of my first round of TurboFireTurbofire is broken down into different sequences/areas of affect each month.  First month was the HIIT Month. So the first 4 weeks focused on incorporating HIIT workouts throughout the week on top of the standard cardio workouts.  The 2nd month is called the ‘cardio’ month.  You won’t be doing any HIIT workouts during that period.  In week 8, it is actually a ‘recovery’ week.  More on that as I get into that week (week 8) and cover it.  Here is a layout of the full 20 week plan that has been developed by Chalene.

My video Update is also posted on YouTube here.  You can see all my video’s in my channel.

TurboFire Weeks 1 –4 –> HIIT Level 1
TurboFire Weeks 5-8 –> Cardio / recovery
TurboFire Weeks 9-12 –> HIIT Level 2 / recovery
TurboFire Weeks 13-16 –> Advanced Cardio / recovery
TurboFire Weeks 17-20 –> HIIT 3 / recovery

I am going to be doing only the weeks 1 – 12 for now.  To do weeks 13 – 16, you will need the get the added workouts in order to complete them.  I will probably get them as I near the end of the first 90 days myself and continue to push forward with my TurboFire experience. WHich I have to say has been fun.

So last week was first week of Month 2 and lots of cardio. but I'm loving it. I have also added now the first of the Tony Horton P90x One on One’s Chest / Back / Balls once a week.  I cannot go without something One on One based in any program I do.   Key that I’ve found is that I’m having fun pushing and challenging myself day to day with these workouts.  Once you get yourself excited about getting fit and healthy, it 2nd nature to want to keep going and stay motivated pressing play.  Join me in WOWY daily. BuddyName: KevinPrice. I sent out a daily invite for my workouts.  It helps as a reminder to you to do yours, and if you can join me at the same time.

So if you make any decision about your health and fitness, the first thing you need to decide is are you ready to commit yourself to getting healthy?  Take that first step. Take that first little baby step to saying yes. Find something that peaks your interest. I would love for it to be a Beachbody program because I know they work. Day 18 of 90 TurboFire Workout Program (Beachbody creators of P90x/Insanity)

clock July 17, 2010 15:07 by author kevin

TurboFireLogo2  Day 18 was the HIIT 15 and Tone 30 classes for TurboFire.  Now I've already done the HIIT 15 a few times and I’m nailing that consistently with getting the moves in, raising the intensity and really starting to see the effects I think from these HIIT workouts.  I’ve added a couple times now some weighted gloves and you’ll definitely notice the difference when you start increasing the intensity like that.

The 2nd workout for day 18 was the Tone 30 class. This was my first time doing this one.  It was is a Total Body workout that uses a band and the stretchy leg band that comes with the program.  You go through 3 distinct ‘routines’ after the warm-up of working different parts of the body.  What I really found amazing was that I had a tough time with the band I choose.  Now the significance of that was it wasn’t the toughest band I have.  And what I notice as Chalene moved through the different body parts working them from the different angles is you feel the burn. If you don’t, you aren’t doing it right and you need to step it up.

As mentioned this is a total body workout. You’ll hit each of the major muscle groups including the triceps, biceps, chest, back, shoulders, legs and core in the 30 minutes.  And don’t think you won’t feel it by the end.  You may have to experiment a little with what band to use and in what length to choose to get the most benefit out of it.

Towards the end when we are doing the thigh specific exercise, i was struggling with the way  I had setup with the stretchy band.  struggling to the point where I had couple feel my legs shaking from the amount of tension that I had to work through.  I was happy about that.  I was a little skeptical about that leg band but if you do it right, it works.  You can also use a regular band for the exercise.  I did try it out afterwards and found it be just as effective. The nice thing about using a normal band is that you can really control the intensity more granularly.  Just my perception of it.

So my promise to you and everyone out there is that I'll keep pressing play, and hopefully you will also.  Let’s do this together.  contact me with any questions and I know that you will find something that will work for you!
